Periferiako Demotiko Sxoleio Peristeronas is a public primary school situated in Peristerona, a large village about 32 km west of the island’s capital, Nicosia. The school’s staff consists of 1 head teacher, 3 assistant head teachers and 14 teachers, special educators included. 152 students, aged between 6 and 12 years old, are attending our school. Our school is housed in a new and contemporary building, inaugurated in 2011. In our school there are 9 classrooms, a computer lab, a science lab, a library, an art room, a class used by the school’s music teacher, a dining room, hosting afternoon school, a large multifunctional room, used for many of the school’s activities and events and also outdoors basketball and football fields. It is a very well equipped school and every classroom has a computer, a projector and a smart board. Our student population is a mosaic of many different children with different cultural backgrounds. Most of the children are Greek Cypriots but we also have children from Syria, Egypt, Romania, Bulgaria and India. All of our children coexist in a multicultural environment which tries to highlight and promote individuality and uniqueness and also all the elements that unites them and encourages them to cooperate. Our school’s staff consists of hard working teachers. There is a culture of lifelong education in our school and every teacher tries to keep up with educational developments. We have already participated with success in eTwinning programs and also various local and international ecological programs.
